Images

Our quiz content uses only public domain images and, where appropriate, Creative Commons-licensed images. This can sometimes make producing quizzes challenging, as most high-quality images are copyrighted. In some cases, certain images are impossible to obtain, such as those of celebrity chefs like Cherish Finden. Additionally, non-copyrighted images are often of lower quality. Despite these limitations, we do our best to ensure our picture quizzes are professional, enjoyable, and engaging for you.

Each quiz combines well-known favourites with a few more challenging items. For example, in the desserts category, most people will recognise what a Battenberg cake looks like, but how many would know what traditional Greek galaktoboureko looks like? Then there are tiramisu and banoffee pie as medium-level questions.

We realise that there might be some ambiguity with certain images, as some cheeses can often look quite similar. For instance, Brie and Camembert do indeed have a similar appearance. Remember that these quizzes are for fun only and that the images are accurate and carefully sourced. In such cases, it’s best to follow the old doctrine that the quiz master’s word is final.

Why Food Picture Quizzes Are So Popular

Food picture quizzes are popular because they combine visual recognition with everyday knowledge in a way that feels both fun and familiar. There’s something satisfying about identifying dishes, well-known chefs, or different types of cheese just from an image. Some are instantly recognisable, while others look surprisingly similar, making the challenge more interesting than expected. Whether you’re hosting a quiz night, planning a classroom activity, or putting together a casual game at home, food-themed picture rounds are easy to run and appeal to a wide range of players.

These printables use clear, high-quality images and cover a mix of categories, including desserts, celebrity chefs, and cheeses. The variety helps keep things engaging, with a balance of well-known favourites and slightly more challenging items across each round.

Helpful Notes for Quizmasters

  • Presentation, lighting, and portion style can influence how food appears in images, sometimes making similar items harder to tell apart.
  • All accepted answers use commonly recognised names to keep the quiz straightforward and fair for every player.
  • Where an answer is close or open to interpretation, the quizmaster has the final say - especially when items look alike.
  • All images used are properly licensed or cleared for reuse, so the quiz can be printed and shared with confidence.

Interesting Food Facts

  • Honey is the only food that never spoils - archaeologists have found pots of it in ancient Egyptian tombs still perfectly edible.
  • Vanilla is more expensive than silver by weight because vanilla orchids must be pollinated by hand and the pods take months to cure.
  • Carrots weren’t originally orange - they were purple, yellow, or white. The orange variety was cultivated in the Netherlands in the 17th century.
  • Worcestershire sauce is fermented for up to 18 months and traditionally contains anchovies that dissolve completely during the process.
  • Peppers, tomatoes, courgettes, pumpkins, and cucumbers are all technically fruits because they contain seeds.
  • Wasabi served in most restaurants isn’t real wasabi - it’s usually dyed horseradish because true wasabi is rare and extremely expensive.
  • Potatoes were the first vegetable grown in space, cultivated aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1995.
  • Cashews aren’t nuts - they’re seeds that grow on the outside of a fruit called a cashew apple.
  • Bananas are berries, botanically speaking, while strawberries aren’t berries at all.
